FSU spring Dance Club show approaching

By Jeena Ehnstrom

The final weeks of the spring semester are closely approaching, which means the FSU Dance Club will be holding their spring show very soon.

There are two shows, which will be held Thursday, April 19 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 21 at 4 p.m. The shows are held in Weston Auditorium on the FSU campus. Students with a One Card will pay $5 admission and general admission is $7. The group has worked extremely hard these past two semesters, and would appreciate the support from the community.

At each dance show, the club will be raffling off several different gift baskets in the lobby. These baskets include a beach basket, candy/snack basket, scratch ticket basket, gardening basket and a spa basket. The club will also have order forms out for those individuals who want to purchase dance club clothing such as t-shirts, sweatshirts or yoga pants. In addition, the club will have order forms out for those who would like to purchase a DVD of the show, which will be mailed to the house of the customer.

FSU Dance Club is one of the biggest clubs on the FSU Campus with on average 200 students, if not more, participating in dance classes each semester. There are many different genres of dance including hip hop, jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, modern, tectonic, Irish step, street, reggae, Latin, African, and more.

Many students take more than one class a semester; that means they are putting in one hour a week for each class they take, on top of their regular school or work schedule. Anywhere from three to 12 hours a week or more can be spent on dance classes alone. It’s a time-consuming hobby if a dancer is in numerous classes. Also, each teacher in the Dance Club is a student at FSU, and they all choreograph their own dances.

Chloe Tagan, a senior in the FSU dance club, says she is excited for the show and proud of her hard work this year. “I take four classes (including the one I teach), plus have to allot myself plenty of time during the week to choreograph for my own class and come up with creative ideas,” Tagan states. Tagan co-teaches the advanced hip-hop class with senior Amanda Zorzonello. She also dances in Tecktonik, Lyrical II, and Video Pop classes.

Being a senior this year, Tagan is proud to say that she has accomplished a great four years of dance with improving and accelerating each year. “I started out in the club as a new freshman being a little intimidated, to managing up to four dance classes a semester and even choreographing my own,” Tagan explains. “I hope everyone gets a chance to see it. It’s going to be a great show this spring.”
