Today (September 21) on the quad, Active Minds have placed 1,100 white flags in honor of college students who commit suicide each year. This memorial brings awareness and sparks discussion for suicide prevention.
Amber Haney (President) and Zoë Frati (Treasurer) discussed the impact of the sight. “We are advocates,” Haney stated about suicide awareness. From discussions and attention, the outcome is to bring “effective strategies with mental wellness and illness” to light, said Frati.
Active Minds is a nationally recognized club for peer support. Robert Hynes (Director of Counseling Services) established the club about three years ago and since then it has been student run. The club sets out to educate students on mental health and to break stigmas.
Active Minds meets every Monday in Hammond 214 at 4pm. On October 17, they will be holding a Stigma Slam in The Hub. The event is a three hour showcase of slam poetry.

You educate people who direct that prejudice, you do not voice it for them.
