Fitchburg State's Hires New Women's Soccer Coach

    By Emma Thomson
This year, Fitchburg State University’s Athletic Department hired Whitney Rogers as the new head Women’s Soccer coach for the Falcon’s 2018 season.
Rogers previously played for Bentley University’s soccer program during her Freshman and Sophomore years of college. She then joined Bryant University’s team, where she graduated in 2013. Since 2015, Rogers has coached soccer at UMass Lowell, Mount Saint Mary College NY, and Merrimack High School. Along with her position as head Women’s Soccer coach at FSU, Rogers is currently the Youth Director for Liverpool International Academy of Massachusetts, North region.
Rogers says that as a first-year coach, she’s grateful for the hardworking personalities and excellent work ethic of her players. She states, “They are on board with what myself and the rest of the coaching staff are asking them to do. They want to learn; they want to get better. They ask questions. They work extremely hard.”
Rogers plans to raise the Falcon’s standards by recruiting new talent for 2019 and expects the returning players to improve their physical fitness and soccer skills in the off-season. Rogers says, “I want them [returners] lifting and maintaining their fitness in the offseason. I also expect them to get it done in the classroom. It’s really all about recruiting and developing the current players in the program.”
At the end of their 2018 season, after falling short to the Westfield Owls in the MASCAC quarterfinals, the Falcons held a record of 3-12-1.
