Although Tom Brady is a sure-fire Hall of Famer, he continues to build upon his success by adding to the record books.
Last Sunday’s 31-28 triumph over the Colts made it 25 straight home wins for the quarterback and a share of the NFL record; although the spotlight was on Brady, the win was once again a team effort. As always, Brady downplayed the record.
“The win was great,” Brady said after the game. “It would have been a lot sweeter if we had done something in the fourth quarter to help our defense. When we play these guys we know it’s going to come down to the end, as always. We started fast. I wish we would have executed a little better there in the second half. We just couldn’t convert a couple of third downs.”
Brady completed 19 of 25 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns. His main target was Deion Branch, who caught 7 balls for 70 yards.
The running backs also did their job. Danny Woodhead continues to shock and awe as his 5-foot-8 frame slides past defenses. He carried the ball 7 times for 69 yards, including a 36-yard touchdown scamper where he appeared every bit as agile as any running back in the league.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis shouldered the brunt of the carries as he ran the ball 21 times for 96 yards and a touchdown.
The offense rolled early on but slowed down as the game went on, putting the game in the hands of the defense that held their part of the bargain, picking off three Peyton Manning passes.
The Colts were nearly in position to tie the game, but an errant Peyton Manning pass ended up in the arms of Patriots safety James Sanders. The interception allowed the Patriots offense to run the final plays of the game by kneeling on the ball and running the clock out.
Yet another great team effort for the Pats, with their win boosting their record to 8-2 and still tied atop the division with the NY Jets.
