On Tuesday, Feb. 5, at approximately 11 a.m. that morning, the Patriots patrolled the streets of Boston to celebrate their 2019 Super Bowl victory.
With the route beginning on Boylston Street, with a left onto Tremont Street to Cambridge Street and ending at City Hall, fans swarmed the streets in hopes to find a good place to stand to view the champions.
The commuter trains were slammed packed with excited, rallying supporters as early as 6 a.m. By North Leominster Station, the train switched onto the express track due to the intesity of excited parade goers.
College students, adults, and families all joined together for the day of celebration, not regretting skipping school, work, or appointments, “It’s an opportunity of a lifetime, you can’t not go,” stated Ava Desautels, a junior at Fitchburg State University. “I am skipping three classes today for this.”
As Tom Brady stated on his Instagram post the morning of the parade, “Boston we’re home! Schools canceled, works closed, see you on Boylston.”
According to the City of Boston officials, the estimated amount of people at the New England Patriots championship parade was a staggering 1.5 million.
The weather made the parade more enjoyable, the music played throughout the streets kept everyone entertained, and the company of every New England sports fan was captivating.
“It was a perfect day for a parade as well as walking around Boston. It was definitely worth it to take a personal day,” stated Ashley Osborne, a sophomore at Fitchburg State.
The atmosphere of the crowds anticipated the pride and love for Boston’s sports teams, singing songs like ‘This Is How We Do It’ by Montell Jordan, ‘All I Do Is Win’ by DJ Khalid, ‘Champion,’ the new patriot’s anthem by Brandon Capp and Randy Lo, and many more.
“Definitely just being in the crowds and having a good time with everyone around and getting to hang out in the city all day is fun, especially not being from around there,” stated Tim O’Neill, a sophomore at Fitchburg State. “It’s something I don’t want to miss.”
The crowds waited hours to get a quick glimpse of the victors, but enjoyed every moment of it with passing footballs between each side of the gates, taking pictures with complete strangers, and sharing the same love for Rob Gronkowski, Tom Brady, and Julian Edelman.
“My favorite part about the parade was the anticipation of waiting for the duck boats to appear at any moment and once they got there, there was absolute chaos,” said another sophomore at Fitchburg State, Serena Folding. “I would 100 percent go again for any Boston sports team.”
The Boston parades conducted to celebrate the champions of our sports teams have been discussed as being future holidays, only because it happens so often. But we can’t help it. We’re just that good.
Congratulations to the Patriots who won their sixth Super Bowl ring on Sunday, Feb. 3, and to Julian Edelman who won MVP of the game!
