Dance Club leaps into spotlight

Catch FSC's dance show on 4/22 and 4/24!

By Jamie Breedlove
Are you sick of dancing alone in your room? Then get out and watch your fellow students dance instead, as they perform in an eclectic and original dance show.
The Fitchburg State College Dance Club will hold its Spring Dance Show on April 22 at 7 p.m. and April 24 at 4 p.m. in Weston Auditorium.
There are 26 numbers planned for the show, highlighting a diversity of styles including classic jazz, tap, lyrical, hip hop, Irish step, modern, character, theatrical, street, reggae, video pop, jazz funk, African and Latin.
“I can’t wait for the show this year,” said club member Nikki Tibbets. “I’m really looking forward to performing my jazz funk routine, because I had a lot of fun this year in that class.”
And, Tibbets said, “Our special surprise trick should blow everyone away.”
Audience participation will be part of the fun, along with raffles and door prizes. The master of ceremonies will be Dr. Robert Hynes, the assistant dean of Student Support Services and director of Counseling Services.
The largest club on campus, the Dance Club boasts over 200 members with wide-ranging tastes in music and movement. Because of the variety of classes offered (20, to be exact) dancers get to step out of their comfort zone and develop a more diverse dance style. Anyone who wants to dance is invited to be part of the club.
“The FSCDC is completely student-run and all the profits made at the event goes toward putting together the show for the following year,” said Club President Samantha Davis.
Tickets cost $5 and are available at the Hammond Center Info Desk.
Members of WXPL, the college radio station, will be using their equipment and skills to help with the sound. Technical-theater major Kyle Fagan will be working the lights while Jessica Killam, a member of the Filmmakers Society, will be recording the show.
