Falcons Defeat the Colonels in Non-Conference Action
The Fitchburg State University men’s soccer team defeated Curry College on Tuesday night with a final score of 3 – 0, which was led by great team intensity from the kick-off all through the end of the game.
In the first half, the Falcons came out aggressive in keeping possession of the ball mostly. The game defensively was at a high level to begin the match. Until there was suddenly a corner kick for the Falcons. This was a key corner kick that set the tone for the Falcons. The corner from the freshman midfielder Oswaldo Mendoza assisted freshman defender Joao Pedro Goncalves. Which resulted in a header to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead at the 10:29 mark. “We started off strong and scored early” said senior midfielder Kenny Chery.
Throughout the rest of the first half, the Falcons kept their foot on the gas by keeping the intensity on defense by pressuring the Colonels and keeping possession of the ball for the majority of the first half. The Falcons then went up 2-0 after a deflection off of a corner kick led to a goal by sophomore Anthony Oliveira-Dalicandro assisted by junior Liam Evans with 19 minutes left in the first half. The Falcons held their lead and took control through the end of the first half, capping off the half 2-0.
Both teams came out very aggressive on the defensive side defending each other at a high level, with lots of outstanding tackles and great saves from both sides. Alexander Carlvalhno for the Falcons had an impressive four saves on four shot attempts on goal. Justin Ritz for the Colonels gave it his all with a great performance including eight saves on eleven shot attempts. The intensity stayed high for the Falcons as they looked confident.
The Falcons kept their foot on the gas by stretching the lead 3-0 with a 58th-minute goal from senior Elijah Kalombo with an amazing pass from freshman William Badger.
Falcons wrapped up this non-conference duel in a 3-0 victory over the Colonels. Giving them great momentum moving forward this season. The Fitchburg State men’s soccer team gets ready to battle against the Salem State Vikings this Saturday in their first conference game.
