Falcons Find Fuel For Upcoming Start to Conference Match-Ups
Worcester, MA— On Wednesday, September 18th, The Falcons put up a tough fight against the Clark University Cougars in their last non-conference matchup of the season but lost 0-3 in regulation time. Fitchburg State University’s Women’s Soccer team took a trip to Worcester, MA to face off with Clark University’s Women’s Soccer team. After the 90 minute match, I spoke to one of the Senior Captains, Kendra Peretzman, and I was able to ask her a few questions:
With the first goal scored by the Cougars Gabriella Herivaux at 39 minutes, and then shortly after by Amanda Leiva the Falcons were down 2-0 by the end of the first half. Fighting hard, the Goalie Cassandra Pendleton totaled 7 saves during the final half of the game.
Kendra stated that the team needs to shoot the ball more. The Falcons had 7 shots on goal throughout the matchup. The Cougars capitalized on the small mistakes tonight to put them up 2-0 going into halftime.
The matchups before the Falcons start facing conference teams were tough games, but it was to make sure the team was ready for their matches. Peretzman said, “It’s always an uphill battle. Our coach sets us up with difficult competition at the beginning of the season to prepare us for conference games.”
The Falcons are ready for conference matches with the opener being against the Salem State Vikings. Having a good history against the Vikings as the last year the Falcons were victorious 2-0 for both conference matches.
Kendra left us with some final remarks “Although the score was 3-0 that was one of the best games we played. We connected as a team” The Falcons are set to play a conference match against the Salem State Vikings this weekend. Hoping to capitalize on some of the key points Senior Kendra Peretzman, believes the team has improved on and can come out with a win.
There is still plenty of time to watch the Falcons play other teams and rack up some wins, and still make it into playoffs. The Falcons host the Salem State Vikings on Saturday, the 21st at 5 PM at Elliot Field in Fitchburg. Go Falcons.
