Falcons rise to top in rankings

The ice hockey team is looking sharp with a five-game unbeaten streak.

By Megan Hester
The Fitchburg State Falcons ice hockey team scored a 4-1 win over the Plymouth State University Panthers yesterday, bringing their unbeaten streak to fives games. In doing this, they also broke the Panthers’ 15-game unbeaten streak, which had been the longest in the nation.
The Falcons had entered the Saturday night matchup not only looking for revenge for the 1-0 loss to Plymouth earlier this season, but also looking for a way to move up in the Massachustts State Collegiate Athletic Conference standings; the Falcons had been ranked third, while Plymouth State held
first place. The Falcons’ victory put them in a three-way tie for first place with Plymouth State and UMass Dartmouth.
Scoring goals for the Falcons in last night’s game were junior Cory Callen and sophomore Curtis Nikitas with one goal each, and senior Chris Riggs with two goals.
The Falcons are scheduled to play UMass Dartmouth at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 3.
