Get the Jitterz

jitterz cafeBy Michelle Morano
Are you interested in a hearty meal that won’t break your bank, in a relaxed environment where you can just sit with your laptop, utilize the free Wi-Fi, maybe do some homework and just chill? Then you had better check out Jitterz Café, located at 68 Airport Road in Fitchburg.
“[Our goal is to] keep prices down, use good quality ingredients and try and to do fundraiser benefits for the community to create an immediate impact,” owner Mark Brousseau said.
Jitterz offers hefty portions of delicious classics that do not quite equate with their economical prices. For lunch, one could get a Rueben sandwich with French fries and a pickle or sheppard’s pie or chicken picatta with ziti and garlic bread for just $5.99 each.
The breakfast menu boasts French toast with home fries and your choice of bacon, ham or sausage for just $4.95. In the mood for an omelet? Get it at Jitterz with toast and home fries, all for $4.95. If you’re feeling lighter, try the two eggs, toast and home fries for only $2.50.
Jitterz wouldn’t be Jitterz without the coffee. This is why the café prides itself on its organic and locally produced coffee. Jitterz uses Jim’s Organic Coffee which is based in Wareham and recently won Organic Foods Retailer Magazine’s Stellar Organic Award for the best organic coffee. One could get a small hot coffee for $1.40 or add just 65 cents and get an extra-large size. Compare that with Dunkin Donuts non-organic coffee, which is $1.58 for a small and $2.65 for an extra large.
Prices dive even lower when you have a Fitchburg State University OneCard in your hand. With a OneCard, you can always expect 10 percent off your purchase.
What else can you possibly expect from this friendly and local café? Live entertainment. Last month, for example, Lady Bear was booked to perform cover hits such as Van Morrison’s “Tupelo Honey” and Kenny Loggins’ “Danny’s Song,” along with a few of her own original songs. “I’m not a folksinger, I just sing for folks,” Lady Bear said.
Jitterz Café is open from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on weekends. For more information on the menu or the café in general check out the café at 68 Airport Road in Fitchburg or check out their website, www.jitterzcafe.net
