Coming into last night’s playoff game between the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings, the series was tied up at one game apiece and it really served as a momentum swing in the series.
The Bruins won the game early in the first period when their young defenseman, Dougie Hamilton, potted a goal after taking the puck from close to his own end of the ice all the way into the offensive zone.
Jordan Caron was also able to score, racing from his own bench on a line change, which left the game score at 2-0 after just the first period.
It did appear that the Boston Bruins dominated the play of the game and really commanded the flow of play, although the Red Wings had their chances to capitalize when it came to the power play.
Detroit had two different 5 on 3 power plays in the second period alone and were not able to produce any goals due to Tuukka Rask’s outstanding play in the net for Boston. Rask finished the game with 23 saves and a shutout as well.
The third period was no different from the rest of the game, with Detroit really struggling to get anything going offensively. As well as Tuukka playing like a brick wall in net, the defense, led by Bruins Captain Zedeno Chara, was unbreakable.
Late in the third period with the clock winding down and a score of 2-0, Patrice Bergeron was able to pot home an empty net goal to really put the game out of reach for the Red Wings. Game 4’s action is scheduled for Thursday night at 8 pm.
