Hey sports fans time for the weekly sports recap! We have a lot of sports to cover so lets get rolling.
Local Sports:
The Falcons football team took on the men of Mass. Maritime at home this past Saturday. The Falcons had everything you could imagine not go in their favor, such as downpouring rain, injuries to key players, and some questionable officiating, but in the end they were successful in winning the game.
Junior wide receiver Taylor Ekstrom had two touchdowns in Saturday’s game, including the game winning touchdown at 12:13 in the fourth quarter. The Falcons started off on a good note with sophomore quarterback Garrett Dellechiaie connecting for a 6 yard touchdown while on third and goal with senior wide out Phillip Saint-Juste.
The biggest mistake of the game came from Mass Maritime in the 3rd quarter when just after a 27 yard passing play, Mass. Maritime decided to run the ball. That did not work out in their favor because senior defensive lineman Pedro Camilo forced a fumble and was able to recover the ball for theFalcons. Senior linebackers Junior Louissaint and Talib Barksdale were both recently named the MASCAC defensive player of the week. The Falcons next stop on the season will be a short trip to Worcester state on saturday Oct 11 for 12 p.m.
For the Cross country team, their very own Brian Amaral was named the MASCAC runner and rookie of the week. Amaral placed 8th overall in the meet at Keene State with a time of 27:22. The Falcons placed 4th in the meet with Brian being a big help in placing there. Good job everyone next meet is Saturday Oct. 11 at Westfield State for 10 a.m.
Mens Soccer came up short this week against MCLA with a score of 2-1. Only goal scored by the Falcons was by Simon Vikoler who scored his 5th goal of the season. Next game for mens soccer will be playing Lesley on Oct. 8 at 8 p.m.
Womens Cross Country ran at Keene this past Saturday 10/4. They placed 7th, earning 230 points. Next meet is against Westfield on Oct. 11 at 10 a.m.
Falcons Womens field hockey team played Framingham at home field and after a hard fought game to the end, the girls were unable to pull off a win. Final score was 2-1. Next game will be against Westfield state at Westfield on Oct. 8 @ 7 p.m.
Womens soccer took on MCLA at their home field. It was a tough outing for the Falcons when they lost 4-0. Lets hope they can turn it around. Good effort to the soccer team. Next game will be at Lesley on Oct. 9 @ 8 p.m.
Pro Sports:
Patriots have been touch and go since the start of the season. A lot of ups and downs and even a rumor of Tom Brady’s career possibly being over but Tom proved that he still has some life left in that arm of his. The Patriots pulled off a huge Sunday night win against the Bengals who were undefeated going into the game. Final score was 43-17. Tom threw for 292 yards and 2 touchdowns and he even rushed for 13 yards. Rob Gronkowski and Timothy Wright both scored touchdowns in the game. Next game for the Pats will be Oct. 12 @ Buffalo.
Bruins season opener is today. Big Trade this weekend with trading Johnny Boychuk to the New York Islanders for two second round draft picks and a third round draft pick. It appears they needed some relief for the salary cap. Hopefully the Bruins will be able survive with the loss. Home opener is today! The game starts at 7:30 p.m. against the Philadelphia Flyers.
