The NFL season is officially under way as the New England Patriots begin the year against division rivals the Miami Dolphins.
Seeking their fourth Super Bowl victory in seven years, the Patriots are looking as strong as ever with the return of Wes “Speedy” Welker along with new additions Shaun Ellis, Albert Haynesworth, and Chad Ochocinco.
Last season, New England managed to outscore the Dolphins 79-21 in two games.
Tom Brady had a mediocre preseason, completing 28 of 50 passes for 379 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception. His biggest targets throughout preseason were the second-year tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. Both players had outstanding rookie seasons and look to continue this trend for the 2011-2012 season.
New England set a record last season for fewest turnovers in a 16-game season, with only 10. In addition, the Patriots forced 38 turnovers, which was the highest amount in the AFC.
Former Washington Redskin Albert Haynesworth could be a huge addition to the Patriots defensive line, standing at 6 feet 6 inches and weighing 335 pounds.
With the addition of Haynesworth and Ellis, the Patriots have upgraded to a 4-3 defense that could prove to be successful against a run-heavy Miami Dolphins team.
