Fitchburg State students take part in "LitGraphic" exhibition

By Alexis Bean

Professor Rob Carr’s document design class at Fitchburg State University is participating in the “LitGraphic” art exhibition, held at the Fitchburg Art Museum from Sept 25 until early Jan 1, 2012. The students are painting four 6-by-9-foot canvases using graphic novels as

inspiration and incorporating the Fitchburg Community into their artwork.

Jerry Beck, the museum director of marketing and community engagement, says he could not be more thrilled about Fitchburg State University students being involved with the exhibition. Beck’s goal in this project is to “get students re-energized, excited, learning, helping their own lives and the public to understand the transformation of art and the roles students and faculty and others can play in building an important dialogue in museum culture.”

“LitGraphic: The World of the Graphic Novel” is an exhibition from the Norman Rockwell Museum, making only one stop in New England, the Fitchburg Art Museum.  The exhibition will have over 200 works of graphic novel art from all over the world in a diversity of mediums.

Beck says the exhibit “highlights the importance of the graphic novel in today’s contemporary society by exploring a diversity of subject matters; such as war and violence, love and sex, the whole range of the human condition.”

Since the canvases will not be entirely completed on Sept 25, the public will have the option to help the students paint during Culturefest at Riverfront park in Fitchburg on Sept 29 from 4 p.m.-9 p.m.

As always, the museum entrance fee, normally $7, is waived for all Fitchburg State University students.
