William Shakespeare’s timeless tale of star-crossed young love comes to life on campus this month, when the Fitchburg State University theater program presents “Romeo and Juliet” Nov. 15-20 at the McKay Theater.
Shakespeare’s classic play is the source of lines that are still repeated today:
“O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?”
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet.”
“Parting is such sweet sorrow.”
Directed by Richard McElvain, a professor in the English Studies department, “Romeo and Juliet” features a cast of university students led by Tommy Karner and Kim Connor in the title roles.
“Romeo and Juliet” will be presented in preview performances on Tuesday, Nov. 15 and Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. It will have its regular run Thursday, Nov. 17 through Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m.
Tickets, available at the door, are free for Fitchburg State University members with ID; $5 for the public.
The play will be accompanied by Prokofiev’s ballet score.
The McKay Theater is in the McKay Campus School at 67 Rindge Road, Fitchburg.
