The technology of writing

When purchasing a video game magazine several years from now, the name Jay Krieger just might catch your eye. Krieger, a sophomore professional writing major at Fitchburg State University, hopes to one day write for a magazine about film, video games, or technology.
“I have always liked video games and journalism,” said Krieger, “and I would like to blend video games and writing together into a career.” Krieger currently writes videogame reviews and demo impressions for several technology websites, which he began doing in 2009. In addition, Krieger keeps a blog, mostly about movies and music.
Krieger is no stranger to journalism – he was a feature editor and movie columnist for Newton North High School’s newspaper. After graduating from high school in 2010, Krieger chose to attend FSU in order to further his education. “I really liked Fitchburg State’s campus and its distance from my home in Newton. The price was right and the small class sizes were appealing.”
As a professional writing major, Krieger would like to minor in marketing or advertising, with the hopes that a minor will boost his career. Before graduating from FSU, Krieger would like to intern at a magazine or newspaper based in Boston. He would like to be his “own expert” in his career someday.
In addition to writing, Krieger also participates in other activities. He enjoys playing sports, including soccer, lacrosse, flag football, and dodge ball, along with watching movies and hanging out with friends. Over the summer and winter breaks, Krieger works a “relaxed” job at a local family diner close to his Newton home. He works the ice cream counter, whips up milkshakes, and takes phone orders. Krieger enjoys the job and gets good hours.
In a few years’ time, Jay Krieger may be a prominent columnist at “Boston Phoenix” or another technology publication. Regardless of the publication, Krieger will certainly represent Fitchburg State University and its English Studies department in a positive light.
