Lights, camera, action! Get ready for Student Film Fridays at Fitchburg State University.
Looking for something interesting to do on campus on Friday? Well, this may be just the thing for you. Run as an “open-reel” format, Film Friday gives students a chance to bring their work on DVD to show other students who share their interests, talents and creativity.
“Film Fridays are awesome opportunities for student filmmakers to display their work,” said Katie Robinson, FSU film student and vice president of the Filmmakers’ Society.
The first event will be held Oct. 8, beginning at 7 p.m. in Ellis White. All DVD entries are due by 6:30 p.m. on the day of the event, which is open to all students, whether they are film majors or not.
The series, put on by Britney Swift of the Fitchburg Activities Board (with the help of FAB) and by Dilila McDonagh, the president of the FSU Filmmakers’ Society, will continue on Nov. 12 and Dec. 10.
“I think that all students should come out and support the student filmmakers on campus,” Robinson said. “I also believe these events are a fantastic way for beginner filmmakers to get a taste of what they will be able to do after a few classes at Fitchburg State.”
The Filmmakers’ Society is led by FSU students with experience in the field; officers include Katy Cecchetti (secretary), Cait Carvalho (treasurer), and Jessica Killingham, who handles public relations and trips.
“I hope that Film Fridays really catch on so that we can have more of them,” Robinson said. “It feels so good to be able to show my old projects again and see how much I and everyone else improved.” Robinson said she believes that all of the projects created by the film students at Fitchburg State are worthy of public viewing and critiquing.
To raise money for the Filmmakers’ Society, students will sell popcorn during the showings for $1 per bag. All of that money will go toward bringing Campus Movie Fest, another way for students to display their work to an even more diverse audience, to Fitchburg State.
