Hey sports fans, it’s time for the weekly sports recap!
Local Sports:
Falcon’s Football traveled to Worcester State on Saturday Oct. 11 and were able to win by a comfortable margin of 40-24. The game’s first score came by way of a field goal, after Worcester State’s Sebasian Paz notched a 20 yarder with 12:41 left in the first quarter. The Falcons came right back scoring a touchdown, but Worcester came roaring back with an 85 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The Falcons were able to score a touchdown before the half and the score was 14-10 going into the half.
After the half, it looked like a completely different team showed up, scoring 4 touchdowns in the second half. The big play for the Falcons was a 56 yard pass from Dellechiaie to Devin Summiel for a touchdown. Garrett Dellechiaie was named the MASCAC Co-offensive player of the week, earning the falcons their fourth straight week of MASCAC players of the week. Touchdowns for the game were scored by Sainte Juste (2), Ekstrom (1), Summiel (1), and Kihliefa (2). Fitchburg is now 5-1 on the season. They will host Western Conn. on Oct 18 at home with a 12 p.m. kickoff.
Men’s Cross Country ran at Westfield State on Saturday Oct 11 and placed tenth scoring 296 points. Amaral Tabbed was named the MASCAC rookie of the week for the Falcons. This is his third honor of the season. He placed 13th in the meet against Westfield. Cross Country now travels to Emmanuel for the Saints invitational on Oct 17.
The women of the Falcon’s Cross Country raced in Westfield on Oct 11 and placed 24th scoring 630 points. They now travel to Emmanuel for the Saints invitational on Oct 17.
Men’s Soccer traveled to Bridgewater on Oct 11 and the poor weather did not help them as they fell to Bridgewater 2 to 1. The game was 1-0 going into the second and Fitchburg’s Alex Calder scored the tying goal yet the Falcons could not score another point as they let one slip by in overtime. They now travel to Eastern Conn. on Oct14 for a 3:30 match.
Women’s field hockey played Plymouth State at Falcon’s home turf on Oct 11. Unfortunately, they were unable to get in a groove and fell to Plymouth State 3-0. Next game for field hockey is Oct 15 as they travel to New England College for a 4 p.m. game.
Women’s Soccer faced Bridgewater at Fitchburg on Oct 11 and were only able to connect for 1 goal and ended up falling to Bridgewater 3-1. Women’s soccer now hosts Rhode Island College at 7 p.m. on Oct.15
Professional Sports:
Patriots played in Buffalo this weekend against the Bills. Pats came to win this one and they did big time, winning by a score of 37-22. Tom Brady threw for 361 yards and 4 touchdowns. Touchdowns were caught by Wright, Tyms, Lafell(2). It was a big win for the Patriots but it came at a cost. Sources say Ridley and Mayo are out for the season with knee injuries and may possibly require surgery. Patriots now host the Jets on Oct. 16 for an 8:25 p.m. kickoff.
Bruins season is in full swing. So far the season has been rough. They are 1-3 on the season. Bruins were steamrolled by Capitals on Saturday losing 4-0. They have only scored 4 goals so far this season. It appears the Bruins are having a difficult time finding the net and scoring. Hopefully they will find the net soon before things get worse. Next game for the B’s will be Oct 15 against the Detroit Red Wings.
