The Fitchburg Police Department is investigating an alleged bomb threat at the McKay Arts Academy located at 67 Rindge Road, right on the Fitchburg State University Campus. At approximately 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 16, local and state authorities responded to an anonymous bomb threat at the McKay Arts Academy, according to FSU Director of Public Relations Matt Bruun.
The students in the building were evacuated to Weston Auditorium on the main campus and the rest of the students of the university were notified via email, phone call, and text alert at 11:17 a.m. about the incident.
Police quickly took control of the situation, sweeping the entire building for a bomb, and didn’t find anything at all, Bruun said. Even with all of the chaos stemming from the evacuation of students mixed with the fire and police presence, the authorities were able to clear up the situation and the university sent out another alert at 12:18 p.m. saying that everything was back to normal and all campus functions were resumed.
According to Bruun, the threat was in the form of an anonymous note found inside a school classroom. The FSU threat was one of several bomb hoaxes that took place yesterday; there were threats at Harvard University and Cape Cod Community College as well.
