NFL events worth noting

Steven Jackson rushes into the Rams' record books.

By Jeremy Weiner

What a crazy Sunday of football it was in the NFL, with so many individual players having quite the performance. If you’re one of those Fantasy Football owners who had to face either Roddy White or Darren McFadden this week, I have the utmost sympathy for you. Here are some news & notes from around the NFL:
The Oakland Raiders absolutely demolished the Denver Broncos, 59-14. Josh McDaniels should start setting up job interviews at Market Basket, because I don’t see him lasting in Denver.
Could the Kyle Orton era come to a close and Tim Tebow’s reign begin? Rumor has it, that’s what’s in store for this downhill team.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got a clutch win on Sunday, with a game-winning touchdown throw from Josh Freeman to Cadillac Williams.  Tampa Bay won 18-17 against St. Louis.
Steven Jackson became the all-time rushing leader in the St. Louis Rams franchise.
Got to give props to the Buffalo Bills, for giving the Baltimore Ravens a true run for their money. Buffalo lost 37-34 in overtime. Ryan Fitzpatrick, from Harvard, threw for 374 yards and 4 touchdowns. He’s thrown 11 touchdowns in the past 4 games. Lee Evans received three of them.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris says, “We’re the best team in NFC. Yeah, I said it.” Until Tampa Bay beats a top AFC team, I won’t have too much faith in them.
The Cleveland Browns won the upset of the week, defeating the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints 30-17. New Orleans should be concerned. Pierre Thomas is frustrating coach Sean Payton with his extended absence with an “injury.” He could possibly be a healthy scratch in the future.
The Oakland Raiders’ Darren McFadden had 165 yards rushing with four touchdowns all together on the day. Could this be a rebirth for a struggling Raiders franchise? If you’re a Patriots fan, you’d better hope not.
Michael Vick will absolutely start the next game. Kevin Kolb went 2-1 while taking over.
The Patriots had a fourth-quarter meltdown as San Diego came back from a 23-6 deficit. With 30 seconds left to play and the Chargers down by 3, Kris Brown missed a game-tying field goal. New England improves to 5-1.
The San Francisco 49ers went down to the Carolina Panthers. Apparently San Francisco owners are grumbling about the coaching on this team. Mike Singletary, watch out.
Brett Favre’s potential last game at Lambeau Field ended in a loss Sunday night. Minnesota fell to 2-5. Randy Moss comes to Gillette Stadium next Sunday for a spooky return.
This Monday Night Football game looks to be a good one. The New York Giants will head to Dallas to take on the Cowboys. Look for Dallas to hit the desperate button, and play with everything on the line. Their season could be tarnished after tonight.
Don’t forget to tune in to 91.3 FM WXPL radio tomorrow morning from 8 to 9. We’ll cover everything from this weekend’s NFL games, as well as the Celtics vs. Heat and the World Series.
