It’s hard to deny the incredible numbers David Ortiz has put up over the years. Ortiz is arguably the most clutch player baseball has ever seen. Just when you think the Sox are down and out, Ortiz was there to pick them back up. He has had a sterling career, and will be remembered as one of the greats of his time.
Ortiz has been clutch in many situations, but nothing compares to the clutch role he played during a tragic day back in 2013. On April 15th, during the 2013 Boston Marathon, a terrorist attack took place that injured over 250 people, changing the landscape of Boston forever.
With the town unsettled, David Ortiz stepped up and delivered an emotional and heartfelt speech to a somber crowd. On live television, minutes before the Red Sox game began, Ortiz would thank the men and women who were there to help those affected by the bombings. Ortiz would follow up and famously say, “This is our f—ing city, and nobody is going to dictate our freedom. Stay strong.”
A speech that was intended to rebuild the strength and resiliency Boston is known for.
In an upcoming film, Patriot’s Day, which will star David Ortiz and Mark Wahlberg, tells the story of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, according to the Hollywood Reporter, David Ortiz will have a brisk scene in the movie, in which he will re-enact his famous pregame speech.
Tatiana Siegel of the Hollywood Reporter noted something quite incredible about Boston’s slugger. “David Ortiz has three World Series rings. Now, the slugger known as “Big Papi” will have a big-screen credit to add to his résumé.”
The film began shooting in South Weymouth, Massachusetts, at the Naval Air Station SouthField, and will be released in theaters in December later this year.
