Jordan Peele is an American actor, comedian, writer, producer and director. Peele is well known to people for being in the Comedy Central Key and Peele. Peele is also well known for the movie Get Out which is a horror movie about a couple who goes to visit the woman parents but things turn left. Peele is also coming out with a new movie called US. This movie is about a black family whose house gets broken into, they try to fight them off just to find out later that the people who broke into their house are a doppelganger of themselves. The movie has a rating of 100 percent already on Rotten Tomatoes.
Peele is known for casting a lot more African-American/black people in his movies compared to other movies for example in his movie Get Out, the main character was Daniel Kaluuya, an African american man. This new upcoming movie US, the cast include the Black Panther stars Winston Duke and Lupita Nyong’o as the lead actors. Peele quoted “ I can’t think of a horror movie of this nature with a family in the center of it that uses a black family. So I knew just by putting an African-American family in the lead role, already we would be exploring cinematic uncharted territory”. This quote shows how Peele agrees there are less African-Americans in the movie industry so he has to make sure to represent and make the movie charts different by showing people that African Americans can act also and win awards.
Not only is Peele making sure to put African-Americans in his movies, he is also putting African-American soundtracks in his movies. Peele’s recent movie, US has grossed $88 million worldwide. “The movie was so good and even though it was supposed to be a horror movie, it wasn’t like jumping and spilling my popcorn scary and I loved that” Denise Yeboah, a freshman at FSU said when she went to go and watch the movie. “The movie had a lot of black people it made me feel proud as a black woman because I have never seen a movie that is filled with all African-Americans like that” Yeboah said. The movie is now available in all movie theaters and people are loving it. If you are interested in the movie, feel free to go watch it at a cinema near you.
