The Fitchburg State University men and women’s indoor track teams hit the road this weekend for a meet at Boston University. The two Falcon teams have been competing in meets since December. They are about halfway through their seasons, so it is now crunch time for the athletes who want to clinch an all-American spot, an Eastern College Athletic Conference spot, and also possibly qualify for the National Collegiate Athletic Association event.
These events are how track athletes get noticed. If they are all-American, that shows that they qualified with the best two or three times in their prospective events. If they win spots in ECAC, it means they have competed with athletes and teams that fall into that category, and qualify for those times for their event or events.
For they NCAAs, they must qualify with a certain time that is the highest standard of all three of these categories.
The runners at Boston University were slated to compete yesterday at 4 p.m. and today at 11 a.m.
