It is no secret that a quick breakfast and a cup of coffee is a necessity to start off any college student’s day, so why not try something other than the ordinary restaurant chain? The Daily Bagel, a local café located not too far from campus, will likely offer you something you have not had before.
The Daily Bagel has been open since 1980, but was bought in 2004 by the current owner, Joe Costa. Since then, The Daily Bagel has been voted “Best Bagels in Central Mass” for four consecutive years, beating out the very popular Panera Bread.
With 27 different types of bagels (apple cinnamon crunch, jalapeno cheddar), 18 different types of homemade cream cheese (cinnamon swirl, honey walnut), and 16 different flavors of coffee (vanilla, hazelnut), it is no wonder that The Daily Bagel has received so much praise. “We have a lot of stuff that other shops just don’t have,” said Costa.
The Daily Bagel is much different than your average bagel and coffee shop. Everything is homemade on-site. “We don’t buy anything and nothing is frozen,” says Costa, “Everything we make is from scratch.” Each bagel and pastry is prepared the day before selling, baked overnight, and sold immediately. Any leftovers will not be sold; everything you purchase is guaranteed fresh.
“I have never been so impressed with a breakfast shop that has such a variety, yet a quality like no other,” says Fitchburg State student Jeff Grenier.
However, breakfast isn’t all that’s popular at The Daily Bagel. “The bagels and coffee used to be the biggest sellers,” says Costa, “But now lunch has taken over.” With an assortment of panini’s, specialty wraps and salads sold daily, the café has become a one-stop shop for anyone’s hungry belly. Some favorites include the chicken pesto panini and the Mediterranean specialty wrap.
The Daily Bagel will appeal to people who are seeking a very personal, inexpensive, family-run café that offers nothing but the best ingredients and freshest food.
The Daily Bagel is located at 582 N. Main St, Leominster. Open Mon-Sat 5:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Sun 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM. 978-466-7446.
