What’s up Sports Fans, it’s Friday and you know what that means! Time for the weekly sports recap. We got work to do so lets hit it!
Local Sports:
Big game Friday 9/19 for the Falcons vs. Framingham State. A hard fought battle for the Falcons until the bitter end. The Falcons kicker had a tough night, missing an extra point attempt and having another one blocked. Those points lost turned out to be costly as the Falcons lost to Framingham 29-26. Falcons were down by 1 going into the 2nd quarter and then it went downhill from there with Framingham scoring 10 unanswered points in the 2nd quarter. 3rd Quarter defense came back and did not allow Framingham to score which started our comeback. 4th quarter we came back scoring a touchdown and a two point conversion but with a 60 yard interception run by Framingham, that was the last straw. The Falcons are now 2-1 and now head to Bridgewater, Friday 9/26 @ 7 PM. Hope everyone can go to root for the Falcons.
Falcons Soccer took on Regis College at Regis on 9/25 and shutout Regis 2-0. Simon Vikoler scored both goals of the game for the Falcons in the second half. Nice job Simon. Falcons now are 4 and 3 on the season as they now face Mass Maritime on 9/26 at Mass Maritime.
Fitchburg Cross Country had a meet at Umass Dartmouth on 9/20 in the Umass Dartmouth Invitational. The men scored 387 points and finished 14th while the women scored 739 points and finished 27th. Next the falcons will race in the Worcester City meet on 9/27 at 11 AM.
Falcons field hockey took on Salem State at Salem on 9/20 and won the game 4-0. The goals were scored by Bailey Miller, Julia Pecoraro, Erin Morrissey and Stephanie Stearns. Nice job girls! They are now 3 and 3 for the season. Next game for Field Hockey will be 9/25 vs. Becker at the Falcons home field.
Congrats to Fitchburg State’s Brian Amaral for being named Rookie of the Week by MASCAC and ECAC. He finished 12th place out of 255 runners. Nice job Brian.
Professional Sports
Home opener for the New England Patriots was on Sunday 9/21. This was a really close game and was rough battle for the Patriots in Foxborough but they managed to pull off the win 16-9. Raiders did not score a single touchdown the entire game but managed three field goals. Patriots scored only one touchdown in the 2nd quarter with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowski. It was a tough game but they managed to scrape by with a win. Next game for the Patriots will be Monday 9/29 at 8:30 PM against the Kansas City Chiefs.
