Beginning in October, the Falcon Hub will be featuring different artists in the CenterStage Hub Series. This series will showcase different musical acts, including the melodic rock trio The Sweet Remains.
Often compared to artists like John Mayer and Jason Mraz, The Sweet Remains classify themselves as “singer-songwriter rock and roll.”  Their three-part harmonies and soft guitar sound have audiences reminiscent of 1970s supergroup Crosby, Stills, and Nash, minus the hefty lineup.
With over two and a half million plays on Spotify, their infectious hit “Dance With Me” will have your toes tapping and ears happy. Their perfectly timed harmonies over crisp acoustic guitar notes leave audiences with goose bumps. After individually pursuing solo careers for a while, the guys joined forces to create their powerful, folk-rock sound.
The group met in 2008 at a hotel in Rhode Island to jam, and after playing together for the first time, they found that they had something special. “The first song we played together was ‘So Lonely’ by The Police, and immediately we knew.” reminisced Greg Naughton, one third of the group. The same song also happened to be one of the group’s favorites to play live. “We trade lead on every line.  I always end up singing bass, which doesn’t happen.”
The Sweet Remains play shows everywhere from colleges to small towns, and they even have an upcoming tour in Europe this fall. Their fan base is extensive, ranging from students to grandparents and everyone in between. “Much of the older audiences understand what we’re doing. When we play colleges, they seem to get excited but it’s so different!” says Naughton when asked about different crowd responses to their music.
After making a few records, including a live album, The Sweet Remains continue to work on their solo careers, as well as their music together. Currently, TSR are in the process of recording a new album, set to be released in Spring of 2015.
The Sweet Remains will be playing in the Falcon Hub at the Hammond Building of Fitchburg State University on October 4th at 8pm. Tickets are on sale online and at the Weston Box office, running $5 per student, $25 for alumni and seniors, and $28 for adults. This event is 21+ and general admission.
