Sports Fans, It’s Tuesday and you know what that means. It’s time for another weekly edition of sports.
Local Sports:
Falcons Mens football took on the Umass Dartmouth in Dartmouth on Saturday Nov 8, and after a game of constant score changing, the Falcons were unable to clinch the win falling to Umass Dartmouth with a final score of 37-36. Falcons scored 14 points before the half, third quarter no points, and then exploded scoring 22 points. Touchdowns were scored by Devin Summiel, Cody Titus, and Taylor Ekstrom. Sophomore quarterback Garrett DelleChiaie threw for 336 yards, Cody Titus ran for 71 yards and Devin Summiel went for 191 receiving yards. The Falcons now take on the Panthers at Plymouth State on Saturday Nov 15 for a 12 pm kickoff.
Falcons Men and Women’s cross country raced at Stanley Park in Westfield on Saturday Nov 8 in the ECAC championship. The women came in 43rd and the men came in 28th. Many runners did not participate in preparation for the NCAA Division III championship at Williams College on Saturday Nov 15.
Men’s Ice Hockey took on New England College at New England College on Nov 4 and thanks to a third period goal, the Falcons tied the game 2-2. Goals were both scored by Cameron Snyder. The Falcons now take on Plymouth State at home on Thursday Nov 13 for a 7 pm face off.
Last week was a busy week for Falcons Men’s soccer. On Tuesday Nov 4, they hosted Westfield State in the MASCAC quarterfinals. This was the first time in 10 years that Men’s soccer was in the quarterfinals. They won that game thanks to the goals scored by Jared Burns and Zachary Young. They then moved on to face number 2 Mass Maritime on their home field, in the MASCAC semifinals, winning that game 1-0 thanks to a goal by Brett Smith. Falcons then advanced to the MASCAC finals at Bridgewater State on Nov 9 and won with a goal by Brett Smith. 1988 was the last time the Falcons claimed the title of regular season MASCAC champions. Congrats men on a great season!
Professional Sports:
Patriots had a bye week this week. They now take on the Colts in Indianapolis on Nov 16 at 8:30 pm.
The Bruins took on the Florida Panthers on Tuesday Nov 4 at the garden. It was a 1-1 game going into overtime. The Bruins won the game in overtime because of Brad Marchand’s goal. Bruins took on the Edmonton Oilers at the Garden on Thursday. Loui Eriksson scored the tying goal, the Bruins then continued to step on the gas. Carl Soderberg scored the powerplay goal, Dougie Hamilton also scored a power play goal, and then Milan Lucic scored a late third period goal. They scored 3 goals in 2:34. Brad Marchand leads the team with 5 goals on the season. The Bruins are 9- 6 and they now move on to take on the New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Montreal Canadians this week.
