September 21, 2023 The Falcon’s fall sports teams are off to the races! As we approach the third week of fall sports games being played, let’s take a moment to catch up on where the teams are so far. Starting with the football team.
Football is off to an 0-3 start this season, they lost their first game on the road to Dean College resulting 33-17. The second game resulted in a loss to Vermont State Castleton University 32-3. The following week resulted in their third loss of 33-13 to Worcester State University, giving them a 0-1 record in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference. Their record has them tied for seventh place in the MASCAC.
Despite the slow start to the season, the MASCAC’s individual statistics page has freshman quarterback Rocky Marchitelli ranked fifth in passing yards per game averaging 123.7 yards. On the defensive side junior defensive lineman Cameron Monette is second in the MASCAC for sacks with 2.5 sacks so far this season. Men’s soccer got their season off to a hot start with a win over Elms College 1-0, followed by a win over UMass Boston 3-2.
The team then went on to a five-game losing streak. Starting with a 5-2 loss to Dean College. The Falcons then lost to Rhode Island College, followed by a loss to Vermont State Castleton. The Men’s soccer team then lost their first in-conference game to Salem State 2-1. Followed by their fifth loss from Curry College 2-1. Their overall record of 2-5 has them in sixth place in the MASCAC. As far as the MASCAC individual statistics page goes for soccer, junior forward Elijah Kalombo is currently tied for first in the MASCAC for goals, with four overall goals early this season.
Freshman forward Anthony Oliviera-Dalicandro is tied for first in the MASCAC in assists with 2 this season. Women’s soccer is off to a 2-4-1 start this season, they started with a 2-1 win over Rivier, then unfortunately went on a four game losing streak. During that stretch, they lost to Brandeis University, Eastern Connecticut State University, Western New England, and Suffolk.
They then went on to win their first in conference game, 3-0, over Salem State University. Recently, they tied 1-1 against Roger Williams University. Their 2-4-1 record has them in second place amongst the MASCAC. MASCAC’s womens soccer statistics recognizes sophomore forward, Adrianna Westcott, who is currently fourth in goals this season with two goals and junior forward, Kendra Peretzman is third in assists with two in the season. The freshman Goalkeeper leads the MASCAC in save percentage with a .852, and she is second in saves with 75 total this season.
The Fitchburg State Field hockey team is off to a 1-4 start this season. They started out 0-4 with losses to Colby Sawyer College, Wheaton College, Western New England University, and Framingham State University. They most recently won their game against Anna Maria College 2-1, both goals scored by sophomore Autumn Tibbetts.
Senior Goalkeeper, Jenna Morse is second on the MASCAC’s field hockey statistics page in saves with 41, she is also second in save percentage with a .788. Volleyball is 4-4 so far this season. They started the season 3-0 with wins over Dean, Bay Path, and Lesley. They then lost to Nichols College, but followed that up with a win over Rhode Island College. They then went on a three game losing streak to Suffolk University, Colby-Sawyer, and Anna Maria College.
The teams 4-4 record has them in third place in the MASCAC. As far as MASCAC statistics go, sophomore Stephanie Sardella is currently second in the MASCAC for kills per set averaging 2.72. Freshman Jessica Greco is first in digs per set averaging 4.28. Finally, senior Emily Gelinas is second in assists per set averaging 6.62. Men’s Cross Country started their season placing first in the Jim Sheehan Invitational, they then followed that by placing third at the Wesleyan Cardinal Invitational. Most recently they placed 30th at the UMass Dartmouth invitational. Women’s Cross Country started their season with second place at the Jim Sheehan Invitational, followed by third at the Wesleyan Cardinal Invitational, and placed 31st at the UMass Dartmouth invitational.
