Name: Aaron Hatch
Age: 21
Major: Graphic Design
In March, The Point ran a Logo Contest in tandem with the staff’s work to overhaul the new site’s presence, and after reviewing all the submissions from student graphic designers, the staff chose the design by Aaron Hatch. A month after getting comfortable with the new look, The Point staff sat down with Hatch to dive deeper into the creative process behind his designs:
Q: What prompted you to submit your design?
A: To get my work out there. This was a good opportunity to work on creating new designs.
Q: How did you come up with your design?
A: The Point writers were looking for a symbol of FSU, something to integrate the newspaper with, a symbol that would bring our campus together. The first thing that came to my mind was the falcon, so I was inspired.
Q: What qualities and skills should a good graphic designer have?
A: Definitely pace and spread out your work, always try to get a good head start. Use what inspires you in everyday life, and you don’t have to copy others work, it’s better to be an original artist.
Q: What are your aspirations for after college? Does that involve graphic design?
A: I’d like to pursue Graphic design as a freelance creator, or maybe for an advertising company.
Q: If you could design a graphic for anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
A: Apple, any kind of tech company, which is similar to my style and gives me inspiration for new designs.
The Point is building to become a more dominant presence on campus and in the local area, and the staff thanks Hatch for creating the face they are presenting.
