Spotlight! Athlete of the Week: Brittny Peralta

By Jack Gallant
Women’s Soccer has gone through tough losses and close wins over the past year and with new coaching, captain Brittny Peralta knows that the future is bright. Peralta is a junior this year, and it’s her second year as team captain. She is studying Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting and is on track to graduate in the spring of 2020.
Peralta came to Fitchburg State because of its small community and because she knew that she could play soccer at FSU. She says, “being an athlete here allows me to not only be able to say I’m still a student-athlete but it also gives me a second family, my team.” Peralta has been playing soccer since the age of four and says that it will be bittersweet when she has to hang up her cleats at the end of next season.
When she’s not on the pitch, she enjoys hanging out with her friends on and off campus. The friendships she has made here, she says, “will last a lifetime.” Another thing she enjoys besides soccer is ziplining. During the summers she works at a ziplining course. This past summer she took a test and is now a certified zip line instructor.
When it comes to her team, Peralta says this season they are more competitive than ever before. “Our team this season is the most competitive team I have been on throughout my years here. We have a new coaching staff that really challenges our abilities and each day they continue tomake us better. We have come together not only as a team but as a family. This gives us the opportunity to know how each individual plays and we can use this bond as an advantage on the field.”
When discussing next year being her last year as a Falcon, Peralta says, “Even though I have one last year here, I am excited to see how turned around this program will be in a few years – because once a Falcon, always a Falcon.”
