Delicious and Flavorful!

How would you like to eat while surrounded by gangsters? At Goombas Pizzeria/Trattoria in Fitchburg, you can do just that. But don’t be alarmed—these gangsters are simply part of the décor. At Goombas, the only thing you’re in danger of is overeating. From their delicious subs to their flavorful pizzas, Goombas is home to some killer Italian fare.

When you walk into Goombas, the intoxicating scent of tomato sauce and cheese strikes you. You will notice the posters of notorious mafia bosses and movie gangsters adorning the walls. You can sit at a booth or table inside the restaurant, or you can dine al fresco. After that, you’ll face your biggest challenge—what to order from their expansive menu. And FSU students can save 10 percent on whatever they choose.

Goombas boasts an impressive menu. It is not easy to choose from their delicious offerings, everything from salads (from $3 – $8) to Stromboli($8.99.) In addition to standard pizzas ($6.99-9.99), they also make 14 different specialty pizzas (ranging from 12″  $8.99-$12.99 and 20″ $13.50 – $18.99.) Their unique specialty pizzas include lasagna, traditional margherita, chicken cordon-bleu, Greek, garlic and spinach, barbecue chicken, and Buffalo chicken. The lasagna pizza is topped with their signature sauce, sliced meatballs, a blend of ricotta, mozzarella, and Romano cheese, and oregano.

The pizza is impressively fresh. This pizza is not like that of the national chains you may be used to. The special sauce is perfectly seasoned—not too bland, but not too sweet. Their crust is crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside. The meatballs on the lasagna pizza were also delicious, and had their own stand-out punch.

There’s also a steak hoagie ($4.99-$7.25) aptly named “The Godfather.” This concoction of steak, sausage, pepperoni, bacon, and provolone cheese is surprisingly tasty. With the amount of meat piled on this sandwich, I doubted that I would be able to finish eating it—but I did. This sandwich was startlingly addicting.

Goombas is a restaurant dedicated to quality. Their menu states, “We use only the freshest and finest ingredients and products.” Try their pizza, and you’ll understand. Goombas is a great place to sit down and enjoy a slice of pizza—just as long as you don’t mind Don Corleone looking over your shoulder.
